I saw this pterodactyl-looking bird hanging out on Brush Creek on the Country Club Plaza.  You might remember that I am not very good at identifying animals beyond their most basic names (like bird), but thanks a recent post of beautiful Great Blue Heron shots by fellow photoblogger H. J. Ruiz over at Avian 101, I believe this is a Great Blue Heron.

Here’s another shot of what appears to be the same kind of bird taken later that evening out at Lake Lenexa.

  4. They are my favorite bird to watch around here because they aren’t afraid of me and my camera, and they are so slow and methodical in searching for a meal.
