Old Structure
I came across the remains of this old brick and stone building along a walking trail in Shawnee Mission Park. I’m not sure what it used to be, and a Google search was unfruitful. However, I thought it was pretty interesting.
What do you think? Anyone know what it used to be?

It looks like it used to be a house. What do you think?
I don’t know, it’s awfully big and in an unusual spot for a house. I was wondering if maybe it was some sort of fort from 100 years ago or so when all of the wagon trains wove through here and the Indians with the name the town is called today were trying to protect their land from the white men?
Hmmm I’m not sure, I agree with Mona, seems more likely haha. A really beautiful area though 🙂

It’s the foundation of barn. There use to be a road that follows what is now the horse/ fire road.
Where about a in the park is this? I’ve been trying to locate it for a while and I have a photo shoot tomorrow at SMP! 🤞🏻
Oh, gosh, I took that photo about six years ago. I’m not entirely sure, but I think it was one of the trails northwest of the edge of the lake.
Trail head on the west side of the lake. Go west then left at the split. It will be on the right about 300 yards. This structure is deteriorating quickly. People need to do a better job taking care of it.
Thanks for the directions!
It is down below the dam. Interesting place. Its walls where about 2 and a half foot thick and made of rock. I have know idea what it once was. An interpretive sign would be nice so we know what we are looking at. I am not sure that place is even safe. Some of the walls have fallen.
I’ll have to go back and revisit it soon!
