Chateau de Chenonceau: Exterior
I’ve said it before, but if you can only visit one castle in the Loire Valley, it should be Chateau de Chenonceau. Here are a few of my favorite shots of the outside of this lovely castle.
What do you think? Do you have a favorite below?
Exterior Photo #1. View of the front entrance of the Chateau de Chenonceau.
Exterior Photo #2. I think you can rent these row boats and take a spin in the River Cher, but none were in use the day we visited the Chateau.
Exterior Photo #3. The view of the northern side of the Chateau.
Exterior Photo #4. A view of the walkway from the Marques Tower to the Chateau over the River Cher.

Love this chateau! It’s been a couple of years since I visited but I still consider it to be one of my favorites.
Legend has it that during WWII, the river marked a border between German-controlled France and free France. The grand hall connecting the two sides was secretly used to allow passage for citizens to escape to safer ground. Love the architecture and history of these old buildings.
Dear French Frye,
It was definitely my favorite overall castle in the Loire. Well, of those I’ve visited thus far. 🙂
I did read that about the Gallery. Did you see this post? https://ayearofpics.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/chateau-de-chenonceau-gallery/ I love that the owners of the chateau in those years chose to use it for such a meaningful cause.
Thanks for visiting my blog and sharing your comment!
I’m kind of divided between the 1st and 2nd photos. Love the dark clouds in the background of the 1st, but at the same time I LOVE the water in the second one.
Thanks, J. G. Ideally, our travel schedule for visiting Chateau du Chenonceau and the sun would have better aligned and I would have had better luck with the shots I took of the south side of the castle. But I thought — all things considered — these three exterior shots from three different angle than the usual of this castle turned out okay.
I really like the 4th one. The angle and the reflection. How the bridge and its reflection create a nice little oval 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your comment, Victoria!
Beautiful! they all are!
Thanks so much, Marviii!
Oh my gosh!!! Completely breath taking! I hope to be there someday 🙂
If you can only visit one chateau, this is the one to see!
