Amsterdam: First Stop? Frites!
If you’ve never had the chance to visit the Netherlands, let me give you the best advice you’ll ever get: try the frites. Be sure to get them with mayonnaise (it’s not like American mayo) and curry (it’s not like Indian curry). They are simply awesome! Or, as the Dutch say, lekker!

Oh, the memories this post brought back for me. I visited the Netherlands on a school trip with my oldest son and became addicted to mayo on my frites but never tried the curry. I would love to go back there again!!
Delish, right Loony? The curry is so awesome, too! Next time, you’ll have to try it.
Now I’m hungry :). And I really love how you call me Loony. It always makes me smile :).
Mother of god that looks good!
Oh, yes, they are amazing. I make it a point to eat frites EVERY day when I’m in Holland. (And of course I gain five pounds pretty darn quickly!)
This sounds interesting. If the curry is not Indian, is it spicy?
I don’t know how to describe it. It does not taste like Indian curry (at least not to me), but instead tastes like a spicy ketchup. Not too spicy, but a bit like American barbecue sauce. Maybe it’s totally Indian curry and just tastes the way it does because it’s mixed with something tomato based? What I do know is that it is AMAZING on frites!
They learnt everything about Frites from the Belgians (I have no proof of this). If you’re ever in Brugge make sure you go to the Frite museum, at the end of it you get a (you guessed it) serving of frites!
Oh, yes, I think there is no dispute that French fries were invented by the Belgians, back when that part of Belgium was part of France. Within the Benelux, especially between the Netherlands and Belgium, it’s probably possible to find bad frites, but it’s pretty hard to do so. Isn’t Brugge gorgeous?!?!?
As Liz Lemon would say, “I want to go to there.” YUM!
🙂
Yo también las comí cuando fui a Amsterdam, yo también las recomiendo, abrazos
They are sooooo good! 🙂
Totaly wrong! The best ‘frites’ or ‘French fries’ must be eaten in Belgium. Believe me, much better! 😉
Considering the limited options usually available to me here Somewhere-in-the-Middle-of-the-USA, I’m happy with EITHER frites from Holland or from Belgium! 🙂
Ooooo yes I want to try that someday lol
