One Thing, Three Ways: Canals of Amsterdam
Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam grew into one of the most important ports in the world by the 17th century. During this time, when immigration was at its peak, the Amsterdam canal system was created.
I must have taken a thousand photos of the canals of Amsterdam. Here are three of my favorite shots. What do you think? Do you have a favorite below?
Amsterdam Canal Photo #1. Boats in the canal peek through from the other side of a bridge.
Amsterdam Canal Photo #2. With autumn leaves framing the shot, boats line both sides of this canal.
Amsterdam Canal Photo #3. More prevalent than cars, bicycles line the sides of nearly every canal bridge in the city.

I can’t pick just one because they are all amazing!! I just love Amsterdam :). You have been bringing back many great memories for me! You’re so lucky you get to travel so much :).
I love Amsterdam, too. Yes, I’ve made three trips to Europe in the past seven weeks, but they’ve all been for work which is a blessing and a curse. I love the opportunity. I love Europe. But it’s a lot to handle with the kids and house back home. 🙂
I’m leaving for Ams on Friday to go and visit my mom. I’m very familiar with the canals you photographed. Lovely memories. There isn’t another city like this that I’ve ever been to. I always love visiting but would hate to live there because of the weather.
I hear you. It’s SUCH a beautiful place. While I now live somewhere where the winters are much colder, I do appreciate the many, many more days of sunshine and how that seems to make it all more bearable. Safe travels!!!
One is my favourite. They are all good, it’s just the reflections that swung it for me
I like that one a lot, too. Thanks for stopping by!

What an amazing lifestyle! I can’t pick one, it’s such a beautiful place 🙂
Isn’t it? I LOVE Amsterdam! 🙂 Especially when it isn’t raining. Ha!
All three are great. It’s hard to choose, but I think my favourite is no 1. It has such a great composition and I love those reflections. 🙂
