The Elf on the Shelf

He’s ba-ack!

The Elf on the Shelf is a relatively new way the youngest generation celebrates the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The day after Thanksgiving, the elf appears and observes who’s naughty and who’s nice.  Each evening, he flies back to the North Pole to give Santa his report and lands in a new spot in the family’s home the next morning, resulting in a daily elf hunt.

My youngest sprang from bed this morning, saw that our elf, Timmy, had left the book on the mantle, and then scrambled to find him.  Once he’d been spotted, hanging out by the wine racks, she got busy reading the story for the first time this holiday season.  Meanwhile, Calista paid close attention so that she could keep an eye on that guy at night and prevent any shenanigans while we were sleeping.

  1. Sounds like a great idea, my Mum once put one of her ornaments on a shelf in my Sister’s house when one of my Neices was going through a particularly naughty stage. The ornament was to report back to “Nana” everytime my Neice mis-behaved. 🙂
