One Thing, Three Ways: Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
My oldest daughter is singing in the Christmas Festival with the Kansas City Symphony this week at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts downtown. The new performing arts center opened about a year ago, changing Kansas City’s skyline as well as the experiences of the performing arts in the Kansas City metro area. The New York Times described the center as “a $326 million concrete-and-glass clamshell.” Clamshell seems like the perfect description to me.
Here are three of my favorite shots of the Kauffmann Center for the Performing Arts (plus a bonus pic). What do you think? Do you have a favorite below?
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Photo #1. The winter sunset cast a soft, pink hue on the left half of the “clamshell” in this shot.
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Photo #2. And the richer colors of the sunset from the west added to this shot of the right half of the “clamshell” here.
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Photo #3. I love the way the curved glass wall of the backside of the Center not only reflected the setting sun but also a portion of the Downtown.
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Photo #4. What better way for me to keep practicing my night shots than of this beautiful, new addition to Kansas City?

You have done a great job with all of these. I think you should pitch them to the center to use in their brochures. Kudos!
Wow! That is very kind of you to say!
Ohh, I love them all! I really like #2 … it’s a unique view I haven’t seen before. I was just there yesterday for Tuba Chrismtas. 🙂
