Brown and Sprinkles

Olli Kekäläinen recently shared this gorgeous shot of what looks like a drift of snow up against a red door.  I was inspired by his shot, but couldn’t find the right patch of snow in my corner of the world.  Good thing I had a cupcake!

The shot didn’t turn out quite like I’d hoped.  Portions of the sprinkles aren’t as clear as I’d hoped, especially the white sprinkles on white icing.  The brown cupcake box that I used as a background didn’t photograph in the solid color I’d seen with my eye.  And, as usual, I imagine much of this is correctable with Photoshop, but I don’t know how to do it.

I’d really like to try this shot again, but unfortunately, I ate the cupcake.  I guess I’ll just have to get more cupcakes.  Oh, the sacrifices I make for my photography!

Any tips for me for next time?

    • Thanks! The white on white isn’t as crisp as I like, so I’ll have to buy more cupcakes and try again. I know, I know. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make to improve my photography.
