Prayer Requests

Lit candles are common in most Catholic churches around the world.  According to A Handbook of Catholic Sacramentals, Catholics light candles to show solidarity with other Christians around the world and to show solidarity with the person on whose behalf the prayer is being offered.

To me candles have always been a symbol of hope and peace, from the childhood excitement of lighting an Advent calendar as we counted down to Christmas to the light candles cast into the dark days after the tragedy of September 11th.  It’s probably why I was drawn to these candles at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
