I’ve always thought it was weird that the plural of cactus is cacti, just like hippopotami is the word for more than one hippopotamus and octopi is the word for more than one octopus.  At least with the dialect of English spoken in the US, it appears that “-es” is growing as an acceptable version for plurals of these things, but after decades of using the word cacti, as weird as it sounds, cactuses just sounds wrong.  No matter what word you use for more than one of the spiky  desert plants, here are three more of my favorite shots of them from the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.

What do you think?  Do you have a favorite below?

Cacti Photo #1.  I can’t remember the name of this plant, but it’s taller and thinner than a Golden Barrel Cactus, but much shorter than a Saguaro.

Cacti Photo #2.  I think this was a Saguaro.

Cacti Photo #3.  A Saguaro cactus with the Sonoran Desert in the background.

  4. Hmmm I went over these pictures a few times, I think I decided that I like the second one better. I like the black in it and the angle the best 🙂
