Our roadtrip from Kansas City to Phoenix for Thanksgiving did not go as planned thanks to Mother Nature who chose to dump snow on us most of the way. (Can you see the snow falling in most of the shots below?) I was determined to enjoy Route 66, no matter what, so here are a few photos of the murals of Tucumcari.
What do you think? Do you have a favorite below?
Tucumcari Mural #1. Tucumcari Tonight was a big ad slogan back in the hey day of Route 66. The slogan was abandoned for one declaring Tucumcari the “Gateway to the West” but returned again in 2008.
Tucumcari Mural #2. Today Tucumcari remains one of the biggest towns between Amarillo, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was a good first day stopping point for our road trip to Phoenix.
Tucumcari Mural #3. I thought 66 Eyes on Route 66 was one of the more unique murals.

No favourite – all are great and interesting 🙂
That’s a bummer about your Thanksgiving vacation! We traveled to Denver (leaving the Wed. before Thanksgiving) and were blessed with beautiful weather the whole time – it was in the 60s in Colorado!
I’m so glad the weather gods blessed you on your trip. We are just thankful we weren’t in an accident or worse. A lot of folks along our route weren’t so lucky!
