Insalata Migliore

It’s possible to find a bad meal in Europe, but it’s very, very difficult.  After 23 days and more than 60-some eating experiences, the only two crummy experiences were, sadly, in the countries where it’s the hardest of all to find bad food:  France and Italy.  In France, my lunch at the company cafeteria was so bad I could hardly finish it.  In Italy, we had to eat at our hotel one night, and it was equally awful.

This salad, on the other hand, at a restaurant just off the Piazza del Duomo in Milan, Italy, was my favorite salad of the entire trip.  It was a seafood salad with shrimp, tuna, and octopus atop some of the freshest greens and most flavorful tomatoes a person could find in the northern hemisphere in January.  Plus also, I had to have wine at lunch because when in Milan…
