Street of Bairro Alto
Like most European cities and towns, Lisbon, Portugal has narrow, cobbled streets. But unique from, say Amsterdam or Paris, Lisbon’s narrow, Lisbon’s topography includes hills on par with San Francisco’s.
The Bairro Alto neighborhood expanded from the original city center in the second half of the 15th century in response to the social and economic growth of Lisbon. Today Bairro Alto is considered the center of Lisbon’s nightlife with restaurants, clubs, and other entertainment offerings surrounded by residential and shopping areas.
