Traditional Bavarian Clothing: Dirndl Dress and Lederhosen
Lederhosen, or leather breeches, were originally designed for physical work. Made from leather, they are more durable than fabric garments and easier to clean.
A dirndl consists of a bodice, blouse, full skirt, and apron. Like lederhosen, the dirndl was designed for work. It was commonly worn by servants and maids in the 19th century.
