Bay Bridge: Old and New
The Bay Bridge opened for traffic in November 1936 and has one of the longest spans in the United States. Nearly 240,000 vehicles travel across the bridge daily. A replacement bridge built alongside the original opened in September 2013. It cost over $6.5 billion to build and is currently the world’s widest bridge.
On a related note, the Bay Bridge’s “sister” bridge is the 25 de Abril Bridge in Lisbon, Portugal.

We just went across the bay bridge about a month ago. Quite an architectural wonder.
Yes, and I couldn’t believe the price tag! 🙂
Nice shot and great vantage point. I took one crossing it and one a bit more in the distance but not as nice and clear. Love it, so well done. The Bay Bridge is now $6 to cross. If you live in the Valley it is $5 to cross one bridge, not sure of the spelling but a small bridge, then the Bay Bridge and add $3.99 a gallon for gasoline in the Valley and $4 heading to $5 in the Bay Area. So expensive.
Oh, California, how much I miss thee every time I’m back. Until I see the cost of living there!!! 🙂
