Northern Prairie Skink
While I’ve encountered skinks in the yard over the years, they’ve always been fast to scurry away once we made eye contact. This northern prairie skink seemed to be craving the warm, spring sun as much as I was and lingered long enough for me to capture him on film. I learned that the male skinks develop a bright orange “smile” to woo the ladies during the breeding season. Hopefully he didn’t stick around trying to woo me!
On Today’s Date in the Past:
That’s nice and close, did you have to sneak in and edge ever closer? 🙂
I was pretty close, and he was awfully brave. Usually they run off pretty quickly.
That’s actually a five-lined skink, not a prairie skink.
Thanks for letting me know!
