Before I started my 365 photoblog in 2012, I never noticed bull thistle, a giant purple thistle wildflower that is part of the sunflower family. Now I see them all over, and think they are pretty cool. Here’s one that hasn’t yet burst open in purple spikes.

Roughly nine months out of the year, there are beautiful wildflowers in bloom here Somewhere-in-the-Middle-of-the-USA. The purple coneflower may be my favorite of them all.
